Koryo Dragon Bell
During the Silla and Koryo Dynasties of ancient Korea, huge masterfully crafted bells were hung in Buddhist temples to summon worshipers to prayer and mark the hours of the day. Richly decorated with symbolic decoration, the sounds and vibrations these bells created were believed to possess spiritual powers. Our Koryo Dragon Bell pays homage to the beauty and meaning of this ancient artistry. Hand-cast of blackened bronze, the suspended bell is embellished with panels containing clusters of raised dots signifying renewal, kneeling heavenly beings represent longevity and good fortune, and lotus medallions on either side to mark the striking points. The dragon-shaped armature with swinging chained striker serves to guard and protect, and the sacred lotus petal design on the base symbolizes purity, mercy, and long life.
