Tenmoku Poetry Vase
The beauty of nature is reflected in every piece of Tenmoku Pottery, and our Tenmoku Poetry Vase reflects this wonderful tradition in unique style. Handmade in Malaysia by a prominent Chinese artist, the pattern on our vase is created by pressing leaves and twigs into the surface of the vase prior to firing. The leaves turn to ash, the pattern emerges, and a black glaze is applied to the interior making it water tight. The rectangular shaped sunflower vase has a traditional Chinese poem applied using the technique of brush writing. The artist carves the Chinese words into the wet clay using a small rigid brush prior to firing. Written into the back of our Tenmoku Poetry Vase is this inspiring poem:
Remembering
As the moon rises from the sea,
We are spending the eternal time together,
While lovers complain about being afar,
We are remembering each other.
