Rattan Edge Lombok Vases
From the Indonesian island of Lombok, where the Pacific and Indian oceans meet, comes our trio of "Rattan Edged Vases". For over 500 years, the people of Lombok have created earthenware pottery for their food preparation and storage needs using time honored traditional methods. This ancient art form is still alive and well today in a handful of small local villages. Handcrafted using the coil method and skillfully shaped with sticks or paddles, these clay vessels are low fired in shallow pits amidst a fire of coconut husk and grass. Strips of rattan and grass are then hand woven around the edge of each piece, creating the perfect finishing touch. Sized to nest inside one another for easy storage, the simple design and primitive beauty of these table top vases will add an earthy warmth to any décor.
Not water tight.
